Vascular screenings have become a vital tool in diagnosis and monitoring potential problems. They’re like check-ups for your arteries. Unfortunately, vascular disease is often asymptomatic, meaning most symptoms don’t present until something potentially life-threatening - like an aneurysm - has occurred.

Individuals with more than one of the following risk factors should consider asking their primary care physician if a vascular screening might be beneficial:

  • Age 50+
  • Have diabetes
  • Use nicotine products
  • High blood pressure
  • Overweight
  • High cholesterol levels
  • Inactive lifestyle
  • Family history of cardiovascular disease or aneurysms

What is a vascular ultrasound?

Vascular ultrasound is a noninvasive test our healthcare providers use to evaluate blood flow in the arteries and veins of the arms, neck and legs. Providers use this test to diagnose blood clots and peripheral artery disease.

How does vascular ultrasound work?

Vascular ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to create detailed images. These sound waves pass through your soft tissues and blood vessels. Sound waves create echoes as they pass through tissue and computers turn these echoes into images or videos.
